A curious two-line obverse legend
Lot 1863
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 19 mm, 4.00 g, 1 h), 'Stern Group'. Imitating Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. O[...] ΛΛΛΛΛΛ[...] / O II O II Laureate head of Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. [...] Aequitas standing front, head to left, holding scales in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. Holed and somewhat double struck, otherwise, very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

An interesting minor detail about this quite crude imitation is the two-line obverse legend before the portrait, where the Germanic artist filled the field with some additional symbols.
